This week, sports reporter John Walk talks with Delaine Mast, who has played a large role in providing recreational tennis opportunities to Lancaster County’s youth for just about as long as she’s been the head tennis coach at J.P. McCaskey High School. And she’s been the coach there for 30 years. During those years, she has worked, and still works, for World TeamTennis, overseeing the progression of recreational tennis programs throughout the country from her Lancaster County home.
She also serves on various United States Tennis Association committees and is the executive director of a local non-profit aimed at providing tennis opportunities to others.
Back in 1998, tennis legend Billie Jean King and WorldTeamTennis named an award after coach Mast that is handed out annually. And more recently, in 2016 the USTA awarded Mast with the Eve F. Kraft Community Service Award at the U.S. Open.
