Penn State men's ice hockey team received its first No. 1 ranking in Monday's U.S. College Hockey Online poll.

The Nittany Lions (16-2-1) jumped from their No. 4 ranking in the Jan. 9 poll by sweeping two games against Michigan State in State College over the weekend. The three teams above them in the Jan. 9 poll — Denver, Harvard and Minnesota Deluth — all collected losses.

Penn State has won 14 of its last 15 games. Its only setback during that stretch came in a 3-0 loss at No. 11 Ohio State Jan. 6.

The Buckeyes visit Penn State for a weekend series with games scheduled for Friday and Saturday.

Penn State entered the Division I level for the 2012-13 season after competing as a club team since 1971.
