Following is an event-by-event look at the boys events in the 2019 Lancaster-Lebanon League track and field championships scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Hempfield. The top five seeds are listed.

100-METER DASH

When: Trials - Friday, 4:15 p.m. Finals - Saturday, 11:05 a.m.

Meet record: 10.3 (Jaren Hayes, Cedar Crest, 2001)

Top seeds: 1. Ezra Mellinger, Lampeter-Strasburg (10.64); 2. Tanner Hess, Hempfield (10.84); 3. Dejon Manning, McCaskey (10.94); 4. Da'Avionce Rodriguez, McCaskey (10.94); 5. Jepel Gibbs, Cedar Crest (11.01).

Notable: Mellinger won last year's title in a photo finish, knocking off then-senior and defending champion Jose Barbon of Conestoga Valley ... During the regular season, Mellinger racked up 100-meter wins in all seven of the Pioneers' dual meets, as well as the April 13 Black Knight Invitational ... Mellinger looks to become the league's first back-to-back boys 100 champion since Cedar Crest's Denzel Pierre in 2013-14 ... Manheim Township's Matt Russinko (seeded sixth, 11.04) and Titan Cox (seeded eighth, 11.05), and Gibbs also advanced to last year's final, finishing fourth, sixth and seventh, respectively ... Hess had his best outing of the season in Monday's dual meet against Conestoga Valley, winning the 100 in a hand-held time of 10.6 ... Rodriguez finished third at the Black Knight Invitational, 0.002 seconds behind Coatesville's Eric Kirk ... Cox won the 100 at the April 20 Blue Jay Invitational while Gibbs won the 100 at the Lebanon County Championships April 27 ... At the April 26 Cy Fritz Open, Warwick's Gurby Marcellus (seeded seventh, 11.06) and Ryan Fegley (seeded ninth, 11.14) finished second and third, respectively.

200-METER DASH

When: Trials - Friday, 5:15 p.m. Finals - Saturday, 2:05 p.m.

Meet record: 21.4 (Jaren Hayes, Cedar Crest, 2001)

Last year's champion: Leonel Del Rosario, McCaskey*

Top seeds: 1. Ezra Mellinger, Lampeter-Strasburg (21.48); 2. Titan Cox, Manheim Township (21.94); 3. Da'Avionce Rodriguez, McCaskey (22.23); 4. Ryan Fegley, Warwick (22.24); 5. Gurby Marcellus, Warwick (22.51).

Notable: Mellinger broke the Black Knight Invitational's 200 record in April with his best time of the season. Rodriguez finished third in the race with his best time... Cox broke his own school record and Manheim Township's stadium record in an April 23 dual-meet win over Warwick in a race that also pulled Fegley to a second-place finish with his season's best time ... Cox and Russinko (seeded sixth, 22.84), along with Cedar Crest's Chris Rios (seeded 18th, 23.54) advanced to last year's league final, where they finished third, fifth and seventh ... Cox won the 200 at the Blue Jay Invitational.


2019 L-L League Championships: Schedule of Events


400-METER DASH

When: Saturday, 12:45 p.m.

Meet record: 48.5 (Eric Hiller, Elizabethtown, 1999)

Last year's champion: Leonel Del Rosario, McCaskey*

Top seeds: 1. Chad Mowbray, Penn Manor (49.71); 2. Tanner Hess, Hempfield (50.64); 3. Colin Althoff, Solanco (51.64); 4. Josenlly Martinez, Penn Manor (51.74); 5. Aiden Weaver, Elizabethtown (52.11).

Notable: Of the 25 league-championship entries, only five are seniors. They are Mowbray, Elizabethtown's Aiden Hellein (seeded ninth, 52.32), Ephrata's Ben Kamide (10th, 52.35), McCaskey's Emmanuel Asencio Pierre (18th, 54.76) and Lancaster Mennonite's Abenzer Belamo (25th, 59.64) ... Mowbray was the only underclassman to finish in the top seven last year. He was the silver medalist. Hess finished 11th in the next-best performance for athletes returning to the event this year ... Mowbray won the 400 at the Black Knight Invitational with the only sub-50 time of the season in the L-L League, and he finished third at the March 30 Tim Cook Invitational.

800-METER RUN

When: Saturday, 1:45 p.m.

Meet record: 1:52.9 (Jared Weaver, Conestoga Valley, 2006)

Last year's champion: Tyler Shue, Ephrata

Top seeds: 1. Tyler Shue, Ephrata (1:55.27); 2. Evan Dorenkamp, Manheim Township (1:55.84); 3. Nate Shutter, Cedar Crest (1:56.33); 4. Connor Shields, Warwick (1:56.52); 5. Riley Klick, Lebanon (1:57.94).

Notable: Shue won last year's 800 title while Penn Manor's David Kramer (seeded 25th, 2:04.53), Shields, Shutter and Klick also earned medals ... Seven of the 33 entries have seed times under 2:00 compared to three last year ... Shue ran his 1:55.27 in a meet-record win at the Black Knight Invitational. The race also helped Shields run to his best time of the season in a third-place finish ... Dorenkamp also posted his best time of the season in a record-breaking invitational performance, when he earned a win at Bruce Dallas with a four-second margin of victory ... Klick, Lebanon's county champion, finished third in the Class 3A 800 at the April 20 Shippensburg Invitational.

1,600-METER RUN

When: Saturday, 11:35 a.m.

Meet record: 4:11.73 (Nathan Henderson, McCaskey, 2017)

Last year's champion: Nate Grucelski, Conestoga Valley

Top seeds: 1. Nate Grucelski, Conestoga Valley (4:16.58); 2. Connor Shields, Warwick (4:16.67); 3. Tyler Shue, Ephrata (4:20.12); 4. Evan Dorenkamp, Manheim Township (4:23.74); 5. Justin Rittenhouse, Hempfield (4:24.24).

Notable: Shields, Dorenkamp, Manheim Township's Ian Miller (seeded eighth, 4:26.94) and Rittenhouse all joined Grucelski on the medal stand at last year's league meet ... Grucelski and Shields posted their best times of the season at Friday's Hoka Henderson Invitational, finishing second and third, respectively ... Shue ran his best time in a win at the Black Knight Invitational while Rittenhouse took second place with his season's best time ... Shields and Dorenkamp finished one-two at the Bruce Dallas Invitational while Shue, Grucelski and Rittenhouse took the top three spots in the Class 3A race at the Shippensburg Invitational.

3,200-METER RUN

When: Friday, 6 p.m.

Meet record: 9:03:10 (Nathan Henderson, McCaskey, 2017)

Last year's champion: Andrew Foster, Ephrata

Top seeds: 1. Ian Miller, Manheim Township (9:25.99); 2. Andrew Foster, Ephrata (9:36.71); 3. Noah Martin, Warwick (9:36.94); 4. Connor Shields, Warwick (9:41.04); 5. Jake Barrett, Cedar Crest (9:44.89).

Notable: The top five seeds belong to seniors ... Foster was seeded ninth before his championship run last year ... Miller and Lancaster Mennonite's Logan Horst (seeded ninth, 9:55.0) also earned league medals last year, finishing third and fourth, respectively ... In last year's race, Lebanon's Evan Blymier posted a school record in the first heat to jump 10 spots from his seed to finish fifth overall as a freshman. This year's freshman entries include Cedar Crest's Luke Hinegardner (10th, 10:00.50), Manheim Township's Tyler Stevens (11th, 10:02.74) and Lebanon's Caleb Hershey (19th, 10:36.24) ... Miller posted his best time of the season while setting a meet record in a win at the Bruce Dallas Invitational while Foster set his best time in a second-place run at the Shippensburg Invitational ... Foster also won the 3,200 at the Black Knight Invitational, ahead of Martin, Penn Manor's Graham Thomas (seeded eighth, 9:49.34) and McCaskey's Stephen Schousen (ninth, 9:53.79).

110-METER HURDLES

When: Trials - Friday, 4:45 p.m. Finals - Saturday, 10:50 a.m.

Meet record: 14.02 (Chance Post, Conestoga Valley, 2014)

Last year's champion: Taraje Whitfield, Penn Manor*

Top seeds: 1. Alex Miller, Cedar Crest (15.02); 2. Zach Reed, Manheim Central (15.14); 3. Elijah Herb, Elco (15.14); 4. Wayne Robinson, Manheim Township (15.24); 5. Dejon Manning, McCaskey (15.24).

Notable: Elco's Herb and Manheim Township's Robinson were the only two underclassmen to advance to last year's final. They finished sixth and seventh, respectively ... Miller took first place over Robinson in Cedar Crest's April 29 dual meet against Manheim Township. Manning got the edge against Miller in McCaskey's April 8 dual meet against Cedar Crest, and Robinson wrapped up the regular season with a head-to-head win against Manning Monday at Manheim Township. Manning also won the 110 title at the Black Knight Invitational, topping a finals field that included Lampeter-Strasburg's Josiah Zehr (seeded ninth, 15.51), Miller, Conestoga Valley's Joe Cardina (sixth, 15.34), Elizabethtown's Derek Heisey (seeded ninth, 15.51) and Cedar Crest's Anthony Reese (10th, 15.84) ... Reed earned seven dual-meet victories and posted his top FAT time Friday in the Battle for the Bridge trials.

300-METER HURDLES

When: Saturday, 1:15 p.m.

Meet record: 37.43 (Chance Post, Conestoga Valley, 2014)

Last year's champion: Taraje Whitfield, Penn Manor*

Top seeds: 1. Dejon Manning, McCaskey (39.14); 2. Zach Reed, Manheim Central (39.52); 3. Josiah Zehr, Lampeter-Strasburg (40.24); 4. Derek Heisey, Elizabethtown (40.28); 5. Loago Snavley, Conestoga Valley (40.54).

Notable: Reed, Manning, Obed Bawmungwa (seeded ninth, 41.14) and Zehr all earned medals at last year's league championships ... Manning posted his best time in a win at the Hoka Henderson Invitational. He also won the 300 hurdles at the Black Knight Invitational and the Cy Fritz Open ... Reed clocked in with his top time of the season at the Battle for the Bridge ... Zehr won the 300 hurdles at the April 20 Blue Jay Invitational.

Meet record: 42.2 (Cedar Crest's Kevin Reyes, Tobias Robinson, Michael Fox and Peter Habegger, 2004)

Last year's champion: McCaskey

Top seeds: 1. McCaskey (42.54); 2. Warwick (42.95); 3. Penn Manor (43.83); 4. Lampeter-Strasburg (44.16); 5. Cedar Crest (44.19).

Notable: McCaskey won the 4x100 at the Hoka Henderson Invitational while Warwick took second place. The Red Tornado and Warriors also went one-two at the Cy Fritz Open ... After dropping a decision to Cedar Crest in its season opener, Warwick won its next five dual-meet races in the Section One gauntlet ... The Pioneers went unbeaten in their Section Two dual-meet races ... Ephrata (seeded seventh, 44.36) won the 4x100 at Saturday's Blue Streak Relays with its season's best time.

1,600-METER RELAY

When: Saturday, 2:30 p.m.

Meet record: 3:21.17 (McCaskey's Jamel Henry, Dejon Manning, Anthony DeLeon and Leonel Del Rosario, 2018)

Last year's champion: McCaskey

Top seeds: 1. Solanco (3:27.07); 2. Manheim Township (3:27.94); 3. Ephrata (3:28.07); 4. Penn Manor (3:28.24); 5. Warwick (3:29.84).

Notable: The Golden Mules posted their best time of the season in a win at the Blue Streak Relays Saturday. Solanco also won its first six dual-meet races. Ephrata topped the Golden Mules Monday, but Solanco did not run its 'A' team.

3,200-METER RELAY

When: Saturday, 10:25 a.m.

Meet record: 7:50.6 (Cocalico's Shafer, Wagner, Webb and Thiry, 2000)

Last year's champion: Ephrata

Top seeds: 1. Warwick (7:57.10); 2. Manheim Township (7:58.44); 3. Cedar Crest (7:59.69); 4. Lampeter-Strasburg (8:18.82); 5. McCaskey (8:19.24).

Notable: Champion Ephrata was the only team last year with a sub-8:00 seed time ... Warwick, Manheim Township and Cedar Crest all qualified for Penn Relays heats ... Manheim Township was the only team to defeat Warwick in a dual meet this season ... Warwick won the 4x800 at the Black Knight Invitational, setting a meet record. Cedar Crest finished second and Manheim Township third in that race ... Lampeter-Strasburg won the 4x800 at the Dallastown Invitational while Manheim Township topped the field at the Blue Jay Invitational.

SHOT PUT

When: Saturday, 10 a.m.

Meet record: 60-1.5 (Kyle Felpel, Cocalico, 2012)

Last year's champion: Casey McCollum, Penn Manor*

Top seeds: 1. Brock Gingrich, Cocalico (55-3.5); 2. Gabe Frederick, Lampeter-Strasburg (52-5.25); 3. Nick Coomer, Warwick (52-5); 4. Dylan Lambrecht, Northern Lebanon (49-9.5); 5. Jaden Lopez, Hempfield (48-2.25).

Notable: Frederick finished fourth and Gingrich finished seventh at last year's league championships ... The top two seeds, they faced off twice over the last two weeks of the regular season. Frederick won the head-to-head matchup at their April 29 dual-meet in Lampeter. Gingrich posted the better mark, and the league's top throw of the regular season, five days later at the Blue Streak Relays ... Frederick won the shot put in all seven of the Pioeners' dual meets ... Gingrich won the shot put at the Blue Jay Invitational while Frederick took first place at the Dallastown Invitational ... Lambrecht, a sophomore, finished second at the Lebanon County championships to Palmyra's Garrett Miller and finished ahead of Cedar Crest's junior duo of TJ Moore (seeded sixth, 47-10) and Eric Wawrzyniak (eighth, 46-5.5).

DISCUS

When: Saturday, 12:30 p.m.

Meet record: 193-9 (Kyle Long, Hempfield, 2012)

Last year's champion: Brooks Bear, Donegal*

Top seeds: 1. Dylan Lambrecht, Northern Lebanon (154-2); 2. Josh Hoover, Cocalico (151-9); 3. Eric Wawrzyniak, Cedar Crest (143-0); 4. Nick Coomer, Warwick (137-8); 5. Jacob Eckman, Octorara (136-8).

Notable: Lambrecht is the only sophomore with a top seed in the boys events. He won all seven of his discus events at dual meets and authored first-place finishes in the discus at the Sterling Hoffman meet in April, as well as the Lebanon County championships ... Hoover finished his regular season with wining discus throws of 150-5 and 147-10 in his final two dual meets that sandwiched a throw of 151-0 at the Blue Streak Relays ... Wawrzyniak, Lampeter-Strasburg's Jacob Long (seeded eighth, 134-0) and Penn Manor's Matthew Brubaker (ninth, 131-7) earned medals at last year's league meet.

JAVELIN

When: Friday, 4 p.m.

Meet record: 213-6 (Thomas Jordan, Cedar Crest, 2003, under current IAAF regulations)

Last year's champion: Alex Scheivert, Penn Manor*

Top seeds: 1. Joshua GIbson, Penn Manor (185-0); 2. Ben Horst, Elco (184-1); Cael Rapp, Donegal (178-8); 4. Jack Rodenberger, Manheim Township (177-7); Brenden Nauman, Elco (176-1).

Notable: With Alex Scheivert, the two-time league champion throwing at Pitt, the javelin field has opened up ... Lampeter-Strasburg's Alex Stoeffler (seeded sixth, 174-10) was the top underclassman at last year's league championships, finishing fifth. Rodenberger also medaled with an eighth-place finish ... Consistency between Horst and Nauman has helped the pair challenge each other throughout the season and contribute to Elco's section-title run ... Rapp hit his best mark of the season in a dual-meet win at Elco ... Rodenberger earned wins in all seven of the Blue Streaks' dual meets during the regular season, including a head-to-head matchup with Gibson April 1.

LONG JUMP

Notable: Mellinger, Cox, Rivers and Bawmungwa all medaled at the league meet last year ... Mellinger won the state indoor long jump title and, for the second year in a row, qualified for the Penn Relays. He also won the long jump with a personal-best and meet record at the Black Knight Invitational, posted the top mark at the Blue Streak Relays and went undefeated in dual meets. Rivers hit 22-7 in a second-place finish to Mellinger in a dual meet April 8. He also won the long jump at the Twin Valley Invitational, with his season's best mark ... Cox won the long jump in all seven of the Blue Streaks' dual meets during the regular season.

TRIPLE JUMP

When: Saturday, 12:30 p.m.

Meet record: 47-3.25 (Sylvester Gray, McCaskey, 1996)

Last year's champion: Avery Walker, Donegal*

Top seeds: 1. Will Rivers, Manheim Central (48-3); 2. Joe Cardina, Conestoga Valley (44-8.25); 3. Kyle Murr, Penn Manor (43-2.75); 4. John Martinez, Penn Manor (42-3.25); 5. Avian Davis, McCaskey (42-1).

Notable: Rivers landed his personal-best mark at the Twin Valley Invitational. He finished third last year at the league championships ... Murr took second place with his best mark of the regular season at the Black Knight Invitational ... Cardina's seed mark took him to a third-place finish in Class 3A at the Shippensburg Invitational. He won the triple jump in five dual meets, including an April 8 showdown with Penn Manor.

HIGH JUMP

When: Friday, 4 p.m.

Meet record: 7-0 (Dana Hollinger, Cedar Crest, 1981)

Last year's champion: Elie Basenga, Ephrata*

Top seeds: 1. Joe Cardina, Conestoga Valley (6-5); 2. Nate Good, Warwick (6-4); 3. Porter Scott, Donegal (6-3); 4. Christian Hess, Warwick (6-2); Derek Heisey, Elizabethtown (6-2).

Notable: After Ephrata's Elie Basenga won the league's high jump title in his final two years, a new champion looks to take the crown ... Cardina finished second to Basenga last year while Good took fourth place, and McCaskey's Andre Aleong (seeded sixth, 6-2) captured fifth ... Cardina cleared 6-5 to win the Class 3A event at the Shippensburg Invitational ... Earlier in the season, Cardina and Good finished second and third, respectively, at the Black Knight Invitational ... Good won the head-to-head clash during the regular-season dual meet between the Warriors and Buckskins, one of his five dual-meet victories. Hess took first place in Warwick's other dual meet.

POLE VAULT

When: Saturday, 10 a.m.

Meet record: 15-0 (Jon Andrews, Garden Spot, 2006)

Last year's champion: Ryan Carter, Manheim Central*

Top seeds: 1. Matt Julian, Penn Manor (15-2); 2. Wayne Robinson, Manheim Township (14-1); 3. Neil Waldhausen, Annville-Cleona (13-3); 4. Josiah Zehr, Lampeter-Strasburg (13-3); 5. Zach Herzog, Cedar Crest (13-0).

Notable: Manheim Central's Ryan Carter won two straight league pole vault titles before graduating ... Julian cleared 15-1 to set a Tim Cook Invitational record in his season opener. He won the event in all six of the Comets' dual meets as well as the Black Knight Invitational and the Blue Streak Relays ... Robinson cleared 14-1 in an April 11 nonleague win at Exeter ... Herzog cleared 13-0 to win the Lebanon County title ... Zehr cleared 13-3, a personal-best bar, in Monday's regular-season finale at Lebanon.
