Cocalico brought the L-L League’s top-ranked defense into the Eagles’ Section 2 showdown rivalry game against Manheim Central on Friday night.
But it was the Barons who got the job done on D.
Manheim Central held Cocalico’s potent Veer rushing attack to a season-low 161 yards, and the Eagles had just 186 yards in all.
End result: Manheim Central 17, Cocalico 7.
It was 7-7 at the half. But the Barons stuffed the Eagles on their first possession of the third quarter and forced a punt, and Manheim Central answered with a touchdown; Tyler Flick barreled in from 2 yards out to cap the drive, and the Barons never looked back.
In the first half, Evan Simon zipped a 68-yard TD strike to Jake Novak. Cocalico punched right back, getting a 13-yard TD keeper from QB Noah Palm.
It was all Barons on the scoreboard after that, as Niko Gavala added a game-icing 31-yard field early in the fourth quarter.
