The 2020 LNP|LancasterOnline Journalism Contest is an opportunity for Lancaster County students in kindergarten through 12th grade to showcase their talents. This year’s contest has been reimagined as our community navigates through school closures and stay-at-home orders in an attempt to slow and stop the spread of COVID-19.
Students, we need you. Here’s how you can participate and win:
Kindergarten and first grade: Draw a picture on an 8 .5” X 11-inch piece of paper. Use bright crayon and marker colors to show us how you are helping others. Or we’d like to see what you are doing with your families and pets while you are at home.
Second through fifth grades: Send us an essay, no more than 200 words, about how you are spending your time. Do you have a new hobby? Have you read a good book, seen a funny movie? Are you able to talk with friends online or over the phone? Describe the activity that is especially important to you now, and why.
Six through eighth grades: In fewer than 250 words, offer some advice to us about COVID-19. Describe what steps you and your family are taking to stay well. How do you feel about that? Are there other things we should do help everyone’s physical, mental and emotional well-being? Give us your advice. Or, show us in a video lasting no more than 1 minute. Our staff will choose the video submission finalists. The finalists will be placed online at and voted on by readers.
High schoolers: Tell us how social distancing has changed your life, your perspective on the people and places that matter most to you. What discoveries have you made about yourself? Explain that to us in 300 words or less. Or, show us in a video lasting no more than 1 minute. Our staff will choose the video submission finalists. The finalists will be placed online at and voted on by readers.
Registration is open now through Wednesday, April 22, 2020. Deadline for entries is Friday, May 22. Journalism entries focused on the patriotic theme of “Lancaster County Votes” will be honored.
