Mildred H. Charles, 93, formerly of Millersville, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, May 22, 2019, at Country Meadows, Lancaster. Born in Lancaster, she was a daughter of the late Rudy G. and Elizabeth S. (Neff) Hess. Mildred was the beloved wife of the late Jay E. Charles who passed away in March. Together they celebrated 73 years of marriage this past December.
Mildred graduated from Penn Manor High School. She worked as a bookkeeper and tax preparer for Brenner Associates, from where she retired after more than 30 years of service. She loved to sew, cook and bake.
Mildred was a longtime member of Central Manor Church of God, Washington Boro, where she sang in the choir and was a member of the ladies' quartet.
Mildred is survived by two daughters, Elaine Johnson and her husband Richard of Cohutta, GA, and Judith Ann Sollenberger of Ironville, PA, and a son, D. Scott Charles and his wife Heesoo of LaMirada, CA. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Justin Johnson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at Central Manor Church of God, 387 Penn Street, Washington Boro, PA 17582, where a viewing will take place beginning at 10 AM until time of services. Interment will follow in Laurel Hill Memorial Park, Columbia. Memorial contributions in Mildred's memory may be offered to Central Manor Church of God at the above address.
