J. Rodney Bimson, 82, of Lancaster, passed away on Saturday, February 23, 2019 following a lengthy illness. He grew up in Shillington, PA, the son of the late Dorothy and Ambrose A. Bimson. Rod graduated from the State Teachers College of West Chester earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Education and started his teaching career at Penn Manor High School. He went on to earn additional degrees, including a certificate in Physical Therapy from the University of Pennsylvania. He moved on to teaching at Millersville University, including becoming the Head Athletic Trainer, for over 25 years before his retirement.
Rodney was an avid fly fisherman, fly-tier, and rod builder. He enjoyed spending winter's in Venice, Florida and fishing with his best friend, Jack. He always would say "a bad day of fishing is better than a good day of work".
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Barbara (Wagoner), and his children Dr. Steven Bimson (Margaret) of Harleysville, PA and Dr. Brenda Badis (Richard) of Kennett Square, PA. He is also survived by his adoring grandchildren, Alexander and Sabrina Bimson and Emily and Greg Badis.
Rod's family would like to extend thanks to Hospice and Community Care who provided compassionate care during his lengthy illness. A special thanks to John Barley, J. Rodney's faithful barber, who made house calls for his haircuts for over a year.
The family is planning to have a Memorial Service at future date.
