Clifford ("Cliff") J. Wengert, 87, of Lititz, PA passed away on Friday, February 8, 2019. Cliff was born on April 14, 1931 in Lebanon County, the 4th of the 7 children of parents, Samuel K. and Ada Horst Wengert, in the year his father began bottling milk at what later became established as Wengert's Dairy.
Cliff was a proud graduate of Lebanon High School's "Class of 1949" and enjoyed social activities with classmates, many who remained life-long friends. For over 55 years, he dutifully served as their class reunion treasurer. Cliff was a 1953 graduate of Cornell University's School of Agriculture, where he studied Dairy Science. He also served in the United States Army.
Cliff's nearly 50-year career with Wengert's Dairy, where he served as Vice President, included several roles at the dairy that produced highly regarded milk products. Cliff's easygoing personality was appreciated by employees, milk producers, and customers alike. Late in his career, he was particularly proud of his work as a certified PA Dept. of Agriculture milk inspector working with the producers and dairy staff.
Cliff was married to the late Mary Ellen Bamberger Wengert for 32 years. They enjoyed many wonderful memories together while raising their three sons on Park Drive in Lebanon. Cliff was active in the Lebanon Jaycees, Mount Lebanon Masonic Lodge, and Tabor United Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon, elder, and treasurer. Cliff was also a long-time member of Lebanon County Club.
A few years after Mary Ellen's passing, Cliff was blessed to marry Joan Hartz, with whom he enjoyed a "country life" in Lititz for 25 years until Joan's passing in March 2016. Cliff liked playing bridge with friends, bird watching and spending time with his grandchildren. He was also a member of Highland Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Wengert is survived by three sons, Richard Wengert-Lebanon, PA, Thomas Wengert (and his wife, Cindy, and their daughters, Ellen and Hannah)-Olney, MD, and Robert Wengert-Scottsdale, AZ. He is also survived by stepsons, Doug Hartz and Dave Hartz, and their families. Cliff is also survived by a brother, Kenneth Wengert, and sisters, Louise White, Jane Sprecher, and Joan Hettinger, and many nieces and nephews. His brothers, John and Harlan, preceded him in death.
