Charles Alvin Baxter, 95, formerly of Willow Valley Square, Lancaster, PA and Newark, DE, died on Saturday, June 23, 2018, at UPMC Regional Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Houston, Texas, he was the husband of the late Jane Wilson Baxter and the son of the late Charles William and Oca Hudson Baxter.

Charles graduated from Southern Methodist University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked for DuPont for 33 years, retiring in 1985 as Project Manager.

He was a former member of the National and Delaware Society of Professional Engineers, and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He proudly served his country with the United States Army Air Corps during World War II from 1943-1945. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Newark, DE. His interests included travel, playing bridge and pinochle with his friends, and anything involving his family.

He is survived by his three children, Charles E., husband of Theresa, Somerdale, NJ; Leslie A., husband of Patti, Little Silver, NJ; and James D., husband of Beth, Pawleys Island, SC; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Service at The Groffs Family Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 528 W. Orange St. (corner of W. Orange and Pine Sts.), Lancaster, PA 17603 on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Military Honors will be provided at the Groff Funeral Home by the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard. Private interment will take place at Gracelawn Cemetery, New Castle, DE.
