Denver-Ephrata Area Rotary

Cocalico High School senior Garrett Longenecker was recognized as the January Student of the Month by the Rotary Club of Denver-Ephrata Area .

Garrett participates on the football and track and field teams; he was recently recognized as a Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 2 All-Star in football. He also earned a Student of the Month award in the English department.

.000Manheim Rotary, Woman’s Club

Zach Reed and Emmala Le have been named February Seniors of the Month at Manheim Central High School. The Rotary Club of Manheim honored both students at its Feb. 7 luncheon meeting. The Manheim Woman’s Club will honor Emmala at a dinner at the end of the school year.

A soccer player, Zach was part of a Manheim Central team that was a District Three runner-up. Lancaster-Lebanon League coaches named him to the all-star team in each of the last two seasons.

He is also on the track and field team, qualifying for the District Three meet as a sophomore and as a junior. Last year he earned a medal in the 300-meter hurdles event and qualified for the state meet, earning him an L-L League all-star selection.

He spent his freshman and sophomore years playing basketball in the winter, switched over to indoor track as a junior and is finishing up his senior indoor track season. His sports awards have included 2017 Outstanding Sophomore, 2018 Track MVP, 2016 Hardest Worker and 2017 Offensive Player of the Year. He is a member of National German Honors Society.

He has worked as a coach for the Manheim Central boys soccer and basketball elementary camps, and served as a soccer referee for numerous organizations and leagues.

Emmala plays violin in the orchestra, and sings in the choir. She is involved in Manheim Central Student Council and is a representative for the Class of 2019. She is president of Spanish Club, active in yearbook and is involved in the Science, Aevidum, Medical Careers and Interact clubs.

She is a member of the National Art Honor Society, in which she serves as a public relations officer; National Spanish Honor Society; and National Honors Society. She is involved in the Lao community of Manheim and York Springs.

She enjoys being a community volunteer.

Paradise Rotary Club

The Rotary Club of Paradise selected high school juniors Janae Gaddy, Jack Olonovich and Rebecca Sauder as Students of the Month for February. They were recognized for significant achievements as well as good character and citizenship.

Janae, of Conestoga Valley, participates in CV and county orchestras and vocal ensembles including the high school orchestra, of which she is president; Chamber Ensemble; Concert Chorus; Allegretto Chamber Orchestra; Reading Symphony Youth Orchestra; Cello Group; and Lancaster County Christian School Orchestra.

She is a member of Link Crew, National Honor Society and the Valley Voice. Named to the distinguished honor roll, she is vice president of Tri-M Music Honor Society.

Jack, of Pequea Valley, is a member of student council and is involved in the German American Partnership Program. He is a starting varsity pitcher for the Pequea Valley baseball team, and was named junior varsity pitcher of the year as a freshman.

He was named to first honor roll, and was Technology Student Association state qualifier. He placed first in the Future Business Leaders of America network design event. He also received the FFA outstanding scholarship and the STEM Freshman of the Year award.

Rebecca, of Lancaster Mennonite, is a member of NHS, the Student Advancement Committee, youth group, and the Mennonite Children’s Choir of Lancaster.

She also plays soccer and is a member of the LMS drama program, choir and band. She is a recipient of the Alumni Award.
