The race for president is underway and getting lots of attention. But Lancaster County voters will also be electing members of the state House and Senate in a year that will determine which political party wins more influence in redrawing legislative and congressional districts.
State lawmakers determine how much you pay in income taxes, sales taxes and gas taxes. They also decide how much to spend on public safety, protecting streams and rivers, and social services. Voters will also be choosing a member of Congress, someone who will have a voice in federal matters such as health care, environmental protection and highway spending.
