Police identified a Gap man killed when an industrial lawnmower fell on him in Salisbury Township on Thursday.

He was John Sylvanus Yost, 71, of 168 Snake Lane, state police Trooper Jon Smith reported in a press release.

Yost was working under the lawnmower when it fell on him, according to White Horse Deputy Fire Chief John Beyer.

Yost was found under the mower by his wife, Rhoada, at 5:40 p.m., Smith reported.

"(Yost) died of mechanical asphyxia," Lancaster County Coroner Dr. Stephen Diamantoni said. "He was unable to breathe as the result of the lawnmower pinning him to the ground."

Deputy Coroner Richard Graff pronounced Yost dead at 6:47 p.m.

No autopsy was needed, Diamantoni said.

Smith said there was nothing suspicious about the accident.
