Lancaster County residents who use healthcare.gov will have more insurance companies to choose from for 2019, as UPMC jumps into the market.

Initial filings released Monday show UPMC's health insurance arm entering the individual market for the first time in Lancaster County via healthcare.gov, the Affordable Care Act marketplace. It will join the three companies currently offering plans through healthcare.gov here, which all plan to return: Capital BlueCross, Geisinger and Highmark.

Statewide, the Pennsylvania Insurance Department said, 31 of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties will see more health insurers offering coverage in the individual market next year.

Furthermore, it said, four of the five insurers already in the individual market expanded their coverage areas compared to last year, and the number of counties with just one health insurer offering coverage in the individual market will decrease from 20 to eight.

Final rates and details won't be available until this fall.
