Pennsylvania Physician General Dr. Rachel Levine will speak at a Franklin & Marshall College "Common Hour" next month.
Levine, one of the nation's few transgender public officials, will speak on transgender medicine. The event begins at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 19 at F&M's Mayser Gymnasium. It is free and open to the public.
Two decades ago, Levine was a married man named Richard, with two children. She began transitioning about 15 years ago and announced herself as a transgender woman about five years go.
Besides her state role, she is a professor of pediatrics and psychiatry at the Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey and is an LGBT liaison for the college's Office of Diversity.
