Two York County motorcyclists were seriously injured in a four-vehicle crash on the Route 30 bridge near Columbia Wednesday.

Shawn E. Baummer, 24, of Dover, and Travis J. Forry, 21, of Yoe, were taken to WellSpan York Hospital after the 7:15 p.m. wreck, West Hempfield Township police Chief Mark Pugliese said.

Baummer was in serious condition Thursday, a hospital spokeswoman said. Forry was in satisfactory condition.

Fire officials arrived to find two people down in the road on the westbound side of the bridge. One person was unconscious with apparent critical injuries while the other was conscious and talking, but seriously hurt, according to radio reports.

Pugliese said the following people were involved in the accident:

Patricia L. Schnably, 65, of Freeland, Maryland, was driving a Toyota RAV 4. Donato J. Perez, 27, of Dover, York County, was driving a Chevrolet sport utility vehicle. They were not injured, Pugliese said.

Forry was driving a Suzuki 1000 motorcycle and Baummer was operating a Honda 600 motorcycle.

The bridge was closed to traffic until just after midnight, the chief said.

Police are still investigating. Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to call them at 717-285-5191 or 1-800-957-2677.
