By JOE HAINTHALER | Staff WriterProfessional golfers Sandra Gal and Gerina Piller stopped by Lancaster Central Market early Tuesday morning.
The two were in town to play the course at the Lancaster Country Club ahead of the 2015 U.S. Women's Open to be held there next July.
They stopped to smell the flowers, and to purchase a donut and whoopie pie at the Shady Maple bakery stand and chatted for a moment at the stand, stand manager Jim Lorenz said.
"I expect to be seeing a lot of them (U.S. Open folks) around Lancaster," Jessica Mailhot, market manager for Lancaster Central Market, said after confirming the visit between 7 and 8:30 a.m.
"I really enjoyed Lancaster Central Market," Gal said in answer to an emailed question seeking her thoughts on the market. "It has a special feel to it — a mix of history, the love of home-grown and home-made foods and a community that is passionate about its town."
Beyond flowers and pastry, the two golfers also were there for publicity photos, walking down the aisle a few times for the camera, according to Susan Glouner, the owner of the Turkey Lady stand near the Shady Maple stand.
"I welcomed them to Lancaster. They smiled," Glouner said.
