Police and a passerby freed a 21-year-old woman trapped in her burning car in Akron early Tuesday.

Kayla Fisher, of Akron, was carried away from her 2002 Jeep Cherokee and taken to Lancaster General Hospital. She was treated and released, according to Akron Borough police Chief Tom Zell.

Authorities said Fisher was driving south in the 100 block of South 7th Street just after 3 a.m. when her Jeep traveled across the northbound lane and struck a utility pole, setting off multiple transformer explosions.

Police officers, who were on break at a Turkey Hill across the street, heard the explosions and reached the crash within seconds, Zell said.

Officials said the crash remains under investigation.
