A family of six, including a baby, was transported to Lancaster General Hospital after their horse and buggy was rear-ended by a pickup truck in Gap, according to Gap Fire Company’s chief.

The crash occurred around 8 p.m. Sunday when a man driving a pickup truck north along Newport Road was blinded by sunlight and smashed into the rear of the buggy, Gap Fire Co. Chief Troy Wenger said.

The family inside the buggy — a mother, father, three children and one baby — was transported to Lancaster General Hospital and released at around 2:30 a.m. Monday, according to Wenger.

The horse was taken to a nearby farm and was unhurt, Wenger said.

No arrests were made, according to Wenger.

The driver of the pickup truck refused treatment, Wenger added.
