A Baltimore man injured in a rollover crash that caused major traffic backlogs on Route 222 Monday night in Manheim Township is expected to survive.
The 20-year-old’s name has not been released. He was driving a BMW 325is south on Route 222 near the Route 272 (Oregon Pike) exit, just south of the Bushong Road overpass at 7:30 p.m., Manheim Township police Sgt. Timothy Ponessa said Tuesday.
The man lost control and his car skidded into the center median and rolled multiple times. It did not strike any other vehicles.
The man was ejected onto the southbound shoulder and no vehicles struck him, Ponessa said. He was taken to Lancaster General Hospital by ambulance and is expected to live.
Police shut down Route 222 for four hours, backing up traffic in the area.
“The crash did have an extended debris field that did go into the northbound lane,” Ponessa said. Police are still investigating. A number of witnesses have helped, but any others may call police at 569-6401.
