A mechanical problem apparently caused a tractor-trailer fire that slowed traffic overnight on Route 283, East Hempfield Township police said early Thursday.

There were no injuries in the 1 a.m. fire, which was reported as the tractor-trailer was just east of Spooky Nook Road.

Fire crews quickly extinguished the blaze, East Hempfield Sgt. Anthony Lombardo reported.

The truck, from Yeagertown, Pa., was delivering liquid cream to a Lancaster-area location and was going eastbound on Route 283, Lombardo said.

The driver’s name was not available.

The area is north and west of Lancaster, and the highway was cleared well before the Thursday-morning commute, police said.
