Rescue crews responded Thursday afternoon to a "mass casualty incident" on Route 272 in Providence Township.
The incident apparently involved a collision of at least five vehicles on Lancaster Pike at Schoolhouse Road. Lancaster County-wide Communications reported multiple injuries, including at least one entrapment.
The accident was reported at 3:37 p.m. Thursday. Route 272 was closed between Mount Airy and Truce roads but has since re-opened, county emergency dispatchers said.
The accident apparently involved a pickup truck that was driving erratically when it tried to pass and struck several vehicles. First responders called for a helicopter to come to the scene; however, the helicopter was recalled and sent instead to a head-on collision in Strasburg Township.
Multiple police, fire and EMS units responded to the scene.
