As COVID-19 cases in Lancaster County and across the country spike, Lancaster city mayor Danene Sorace and an estimated 47 volunteers canvassed across the city to spread awareness and precautionary information on Saturday.

Packets about best practices and what to do if you're experiencing symptoms were distributed in different parts of the city.

Sorace, her husband Christian Recknagel, and two other volunteers walked around the southeastern part of the city, talking with people outside, hanging informational door-hangers and speaking about the importance of wearing a mask.

Dr. William Fife, of Lancaster General Health, said that LGH currently has 68 COVID-19 cases at the hospital. He also stressed that the community needs to take the virus seriously.
