Red balloons tied to storm grates at several locations in Lititz Borough and Warwick Township Tuesday morning put some people on edge.
In Stephen King’s horror tale, “It,” red balloons are the calling card of a clown named Pennywise who feeds on children. A movie based on the novel is set to open Friday.
Lititz police took a light-hearted approach to the incidents but asked that they don’t continue.
“ ... We want the local prankster to know that we were completely terrified as we removed these balloons from the grates and we respectfully request they do not do that again,” Lititz police wrote in a Facebook post.
The red balloons come a week after state police issued an alert for persons to be prepared for a wave of “creepy clown” sightings as the movie release date approaches. A slew of evil clown sightings last year caused panic across the country.
