Lancaster city residents and business owners ushered in the Year of the Rabbit with a first-time Lunar New Year celebration in the recently renovated Ewell Plaza.

A festive red-and-yellow lion led a traditional Chinese lion dance, which is often performed on Lunar New Year to celebrate good luck. It was one of four scheduled dances at the celebration. Silantra Asian Street Kitchen, Norbu Lancaster and Oka Asian Fusion offered food for sale. And there were arts and crafts activities for attendees young and hold, including calligraphy lessons.

Laura Wu, owner of Laura Z Tai Fine Jewelry & Watches, Cindy Guo, co-owner of Silantra Asian Street Kitchen, Ole Hongvanthong and Heidi Castillo of PhotOle Photography and dancer Sophie Xiong joined forces to help plan the event.

"When the community comes out, we're no longer strangers," Hongvanthong said in a previous interview with LNP|LancasterOnline. "We're sharing our culture, we're sharing our food, we're sharing our memories."
