An 83-year-old man was injured when he crashed his car near Elizabethtown Thursday afternoon, police said.

Eugene Crandall, of Elizabethtown, was driving west in the 1000 block of North Market Street (Route 230) near Mill Road in West Donegal Township at 3:30 p.m., Northwest Regional police Chief Mark Mayberry said. Crandall crossed the eastbound lane and struck an embankment and several trees.

His 2012 Ford Taurus flipped onto its roof and it took Elizabethtown and Rheems firefighters nearly 30 minutes to free Crandall from the car, Mayberry said. He was taken to Hershey Medical Center for treatment. Police did not know the severity of his injuries.

A hospital spokeswoman did not immediately return a call seeking Crandall’s condition Friday.

Police are still investigating the crash and ask anyone with information to call them at 717-367-8481.
