There are, generally, three scenarios that can determine where you go for a test. For persons exhibiting symptoms or who have known exposure to an infected person, there’s a fairly robust network of health care facilities and pharmacies offering tests. These options usually must be pre-scheduled, and some require a referral from your primary care physician.

Likewise, someone needing a test ahead of a scheduled surgery or other medical procedure can often get tested at the facility where that procedure will occur. Check with your physician about scheduling and availability.

The other scenario involves persons seeking a test because it’s required for traveling to another country or state, or someone who wants voluntary testing before visiting a loved one. Tests for these situations are offered in fewer places and often take longer to return results.

- LGH Urgent care recommends that people call in before scheduling to make sure tests are still available for the time being. The main clientele they are accepting is people with COVID-19 symptoms and people who are slated for surgery and need to be tested beforehand.
