The 2-year-old Ephrata girl who died after being pinned against a barn by a minivan has been identified.
She was Andrea Zimmerman, of Pleasant Valley Road, West Earl Township police Chief Brian Brandt said Wednesday.
The girl’s aunt, 23-year-old Grace Martin of Terre Hill, was driving a Dodge Caravan when it “somehow went forward and struck the girl on the farm in the 300 block of South Farmersville Road, he said.
Police are still investigating to determine the cause of the incident and whether any charges will be filed. They will inspect the minivan to see if was in proper working order Thursday, Brandt said.
Initial reports after the 10:15 a.m. incident indicated the girl was pinned between the vehicle and a barn. She was no longer pinned when officers arrived, Brandt said. Martin and Zimmerman were visiting family members at the farm.
Helicopters could not fly the girl to a hospital due to fog, Brandt said. At 10:40 a.m., an ambulance took her to Lancaster General Hospital, arriving 17 minutes later. She was pronounced dead at the hospital at 11:14 a.m.
No one else was injured.
On Nov. 14, a 19-month-old baby was struck and killed by a skid loader on her family's farm in the same block as Tuesday's incident.
