Fire damaged a two-story Ephrata Township home Sunday afternoon after flames spread from a burning car, firefighters said. No one was injured.
More than 50 firefighters responded to the 3:53 p.m. fire at 173 E. Mohler Church Road.
Firefighters contained the fire to the front exterior of the house and the garage, but the tenant was displaced because of damage to the electrical system, Deputy Chief Steve Kintzler of Ephrata Pioneer Fire Company said.
No one was home when the fire broke out in the car, but passersby stopped and attempted to extinguish the car fire. Flames then extended to the nearby house.
A damage estimate for the two-bedroom house was not immediately available. The four-door car was a total loss, Kintzler said.
The fire was declared extinguished at 4:21 p.m.
Assisting Ephrata firefighters were volunteers from the Akron, Denver, Garden Spot, Lincoln, Lititz, Martindale, Reamstown and Reinholds companies.
