Lancaster County has one-upped itself yet again.

With $10,234,002 raised from 23,545 donors as of Saturday morning, the Extraordinary Give exceeded last year’s record of $8.6 million as the community celebrated another successful 24-hour marathon of giving.

“People have really stepped up to give to the things that they care about and really make a difference,” said Tracy Cutler, executive vice president for the Lancaster Community Foundation, which founded the event in 2012.

In just seven daylong giving sprees since, the event has raised more than $40 million for more than 500 organizations.

“Our community really cares about itself and cares about each other,” Cutler said. "It’s a day that we can all be proud of the great work that happens here and the part we each play in it."

Nearly 500 organizations participated this year, receiving anything from a couple hundred dollars to hundreds of thousands in donations.

Atop the leaderboard was Children Deserve a Chance Foundation, with $549,470 raised from 1,868 donations.

In second was Water Street Mission with $412,895 from 1,455 donations.

Rounding out the top 5 were Lancaster County Conservancy, Lancaster Bible College and WJTL Creative Ministries Inc. with $237,201, $190,296 and $181,009, respectively.

Lancaster city buzzed with live music and light shows as crowds gathered in downtown Lancaster for the Extra Give Fest at the Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square and the Lancaster County Convention Center.

“I just like the community spirit of everyone pulling together,” Deborah Cohen, 52, of Maytown said.

“I think it’s wonderful,” Kevin Weir, 69, of Lancaster, said. “I think Lancaster is in a real renaissance right now, and I hope it continues.”

LNP and The Steinman Foundation collectively, along with Giant Food Stores, are the premier plus sponsors for this year's Extraordinary Give.
