Lancaster General Hospital is going to start flying this flag for 24 hours when an organ donation is taking place at the hospital, "making community members and hospital staff aware of the important, lifesaving gift the donor has made."

Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health will soon begin using a "Donate Life" flag to mark organ donations at Lancaster General Hospital.

The system announced that it will hold an April 1 flag-raising "in support of those on transplant waiting lists and to honor organ and tissue donors and their families."

Starting April 12, a news release said, the flag will for for 24 hours to honor an organ donation taking place at the hospital, "making community members and hospital staff aware of the important, lifesaving gift the donor has made."

Gift of Life Donor Program — the nonprofit organ procurement organization that serves this area — encourages people to take 30 seconds to sign up as organ donors by visiting donors1.org and clicking on the “Register” link.
