On April 7, in our Antiques Market piece, we featured the pending auction of a jar of more than 2,000 vintage and antique marbles. Now we know how much someone was willing to pay for it...
Have a guess?
This 13-inch jar of marbles was scheduled for sale at Hess Auction Group's Conestoga Auction Co. in Manheim on April 15 as part of an Americana sale.
It had already exceeded its $300 to $500 presale estimate in early online bidding at the time we published. (It was at $550 when we pushed the button and the story appeared on LancasterOnline.)
How much did it finally go for?
A cool $1,000, according to the auction house.
As we noted before, marble collectors might have driven up the price. Perhaps they saw a marble or two in the jar worth its weight in cash.
Makes you want to see what you might have stashed up in the attic, doesn't it?
