Lancaster County’s final fair is the Manheim Farm Show.
This Farm Show dates back to 1953. It’s a time for students in 4-H and FFA to show the animals they have spent months raising. The farm show’s also a change of pace and a chance to reconnect with friends and neighbors.
This year’s fair runs from Monday, Oct. 8 through Friday, Oct. 12.
Here’s what you need to know about the fair:
Where: 502 Adele Ave., Manheim (next to Manheim Central High School).
Highlights: A gospel concert is held Saturday, Oct. 6 at Manheim Brethren in Christ. (Times have not been finalized for this year's farm show events.) The fireman’s competition is Monday night, Oct. 8. The parade is Wednesday night, Oct. 10. Family fun night is Thursday, Oct. 11.
New this year: For the farm show’s 65th anniversary, there will be a funny cake competition, a T-shirt design contest for school-age children and teens (shirts can be dyed, sewed, printed and painted) and photos of livestock competitions from the past decades.
Food not to miss: French fries and milk shakes. Last year, more than 6 tons of French fries and 14,000 milkshakes were sold.
Where to park: Parking before 4 p.m. is available at the Farm Show Complex. Also, there are more options for lunchtime parking: Park at the school lot on White Oak Road and walk across the covered bridge to the food court. Noon parking is limited on Adele Avenue.
Adele Avenue and the Farm Show Complex are closed to public parking after 4 p.m. Manheim Central Middle school lot on White Oak road is available for parking. After 5 p.m., it’s recommended all visitors park at the Manheim BIC Church on North Penryn Road, 1 mile east of the Farm Show complex and ride the free shuttle.
Handicap parking is available on Adele Avenue
Did you know? The farm show has a big display of antique tractors and farm equipment. Even if someone isn’t an antique expert, you can’t help but appreciate the work that went into restoring these pieces, says Glenn Stoltzfus, president of the farm show.
