Hammers were thrown, cabers tossed, bagpipes played and Scottish food consumed Saturday as part of the annual Covenanter Scottish Festival and Highland Games in Quarryville.
The festival, featuring games, live music and other aspects of Scottish culture, was held Saturday on the grounds of Middle Octorara Presbyterian Church.
Athletes from the Covenanter Homeland Games, hailing from 11 different states, joined the games at the festival this year.
The festival is an annual fundraiser for the Octorara Covenanter Presbyterian Church Foundation, which restores and maintains the historic church.
A tribute to poet Robert Burns and a “kirkin o’ the tartans” (blessing of the tartans) were scheduled as part of the day.
