Strawberry picking

Lancaster County's strawberry season has arrived.

Lancaster County’s strawberry season has arrived.

If you want to pick your own berries, here are four farms to check out. The season, which usually lasts a few weeks, depends on the weather and the crowds. While Lancaster County's had above-average rainfall this year, there have been enough sunny days to make a good strawberry crop, says Jim Erb, owner of Brook Lawn Farm Market in Neffsville.

Before you head out to pick your own, it’s a good idea to call ahead. A few strawberry patches have closed early on days when crowds have picked all of the ripe strawberries.
