cherry smash

After Prohibition closed down the Arlington (Virginia) Brewery, entrepreneur John Fowler bought the building in 1920 and began making Cherry Smash soda, which he continued to produce for more than 30 years. This Cherry Smash syrup dispenser is among dozens of antique soda vessels being offered for sale at an auction of soda-related and other advertising Saturday and Sunday at Morphy Auctions, 2000 N. Reading Road, Denver. The collection includes many early 20th-century items from obscure regional soda brewers to national powers including Pepsi, Coca-Cola, Orange Crush and Hires. The syrup dispensers come in many shapes, sizes and price ranges, with the Cherry Smash bottle's price falling somewhere in the middle.

Presale estimate: $2,000 to $2,500.
