Even when the weather heats up, there are still lots of races to check out throughout the Lancaster County region this summer.

There's a triathlon. There's a 50K on the Conestoga Trail. There are two half marathons in September, one of which is key to earning the road apple award.

But you don't have to be a professional athlete to sign up for these races. You can walk many of the courses and Lititz RecCenter has a three-week program to help you run a 5K.

If you're looking for something different, there's a glow run at night, a run where you can sample chocolate at rest stops, a run over the Susquehanna River and races where you can wear pajamas or patriotic outfits.

JULY RACES


Summer 5K Series

When: Wednesday night, July 10

Where: Lancaster Bible College

Lancaster Bible College Cross Country leads this 5K series around the college campus.


Ready, Set GLOW 5K Run/Walk in the Dark

When: Saturday, July 20

Where: Honeybrook Golf Club

This night run or walk on a golf course is illuminated with lanterns. Participants get glow necklaces or bracelets. There’s also a kids 5K for kids ages 5-12.


Shoe-Fly 5 Mile

When: Saturday, July 20

Where: Terre Hill

This five-mile course runs through the farmland surrounding Terre Hill and benefits Elanco Library.


Double Trouble 15K and 30K

When: Sunday, July 21

Where: French Creek State Park

This race through the state park has “Clydesdale” divisions for men (minimum weight of 210) and women (minimum weight of 160 lbs.).


Summer 5K Series

When: Wednesday night, July 24

Where: Lancaster Bible College

Lancaster Bible College Cross Country leads this 5K series around the college campus.


Lititz Pajama 5K Run/Walk

When: Saturday, July 27

Where: Lititz/Warwick Trailway

Wear your favorite pajamas in this race that benefits the Conner M. Holland Foundation. There’s also a kids’ fun run. New pajamas are also being collected to be donated to children in oncology units at local hospitals.


Run to Help Children 5K with color and foam

When: Saturday, July 27

Where: Brubaker Park, East Earl

Wear white for this run/walk to show off the colorful powder thrown on the course. Proceeds benefit Locust Lane Riding Center.


AUGUST RACES

Solid Rock Annual 5K and Kids’ Fun Run

When: Saturday, Aug. 3

Where: Enola Low Grade Trail

Race benefits Solid Rock Youth Ministries of Quarryville. The half-mile fun run is open to those 12 years and old.


Chocolate Tour

When: Saturday, Aug. 3

Where: Milton Hershey School Campus Athletic Complex

The day has Chocolate Tour 10K Walk, the Chocolate Tour 5K and 10K Run and the Briova Rx Cycling events (10, 30, 50, 75 and 100 miles). Runners, walkers and cyclists can sample local chocolate at rest stops. Benefits cancer research at Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute.


Lititz recCenter 5th Annual Triathalon

When: Sunday, Aug. 4

Where: Lititz

Swim 300 meters in the Lititz Springs Pool, bike 15.8 miles and run 3.1 miles. Open for teams and individuals.


Summer 5K Series

When: Wednesday night, Aug. 7

Where: Lancaster Bible College

Lancaster Bible College Cross Country leads this 5K series around the college campus.


Chiques Challenge Trail Run and Kayak

When: Saturday, Aug. 10

Where: River Park, Columbia

Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce hosts a duathlon for teams and individuals. The race starts with a run by the river followed by a kayak race. Launch permits for kayaks are required. Proceeds benefits the chamber and the group’s visitor center.


Trail Run in Water

When: Saturday, Aug. 24

Where: Wrightsville

Run across the Susquehanna River and then turn around to cross again. The “trail” is over rocks in the water, a total of 2.4 miles in the water. There’s an option to run the trail twice. Register a week in advance will reserve you a life preserver.


Trail Run under Power Lines

When: Sunday, Aug. 25

Where: Safe Harbor

This course (with 4-, 8- and 12-mile options) runs under power lines parallel to the Susquehanna River.


Amos Herr Honey Run and Kids Color Fun Run

When: Sunday, Aug. 25

Where: Amos Herr Park, Landisville

Hempfield Rec Center hosts this 5K and 1-mile Kids’ Fun Run. Benefits restoration projects at the 1852 Herr Family Homestead and the rec commission’s Everyone Belongs campaign.


SEPTEMBER RACES

Bird-in-Hand Run, Ride, Soar

When: Friday, Sept. 6 through Sunday, Sept. 8

Where: Across from Bird-in-Hand Family Inn

There is a half marathon, a 5K race, a hot air balloon fest, a fun run for kids and pizza party. Benefits Hand in Hand Fire Co. Run the half marathon and Garden Spot Village marathon and get the road apple award.


KTA Trail Challenge 25K and 50K

When: Saturday, Sept. 7

Where: 50K starts at Pequea Creek Campground; 25K starts at Susquehannock State Park

Keystone Trails Association hosts this trail challenge on the Conestoga Trail, state park trails and the Mason-Dixon trail system with breathtaking vistas, steep descents, scenic hollows and strenuous climbs. Formerly the Susquehanna Super Hike and Ultra Trail Run.


Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences Scrub Run 5k Run/Walk

When: Saturday, Sept. 14

Where: Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences

This race weaves through Greenfield Corporate Center.


Walk of Love Cross Country 5K and Fun Walk

When: Saturday, Sept. 14

Where: Ironstone Ranch, Elizabethtown

5K and fun walk through Stone Gables Estate. Benefits Brittany’s Hope, which helps orphaned children.


Watermelon Blaster 5K and Kids Fun Run

When: Saturday, Sept. 21

Where: Manor Middle School

The Edible Classroom leads this 5K, fun run, plus live music and a watermelon seed-spitting contest. Runners will be given a watermelon blaster, a mix of fresh and frozen watermelon after the race. The fun run is a free dash for kids through age 12.


Clinic for Special Children 5K

When: Saturday, Sept. 21

Where: Clinic for Special Children, Strasburg

There will be a kid's fun run and a 5K race. Winners receive whoopie pie medals. Proceeds support the Clinic for Special Children.


Wild Goose Chase 10K/5K Run/Walk

When: Saturday, Sept. 21

Where: Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area

This race raises money for the Pennsylvania Conservation Heritage Museum.


Lancaster Heart Walk

When: Saturday, Sept. 21

Where: Clipper Magazine Stadium

This walk supports American Heart Association.


Purple & Gold Color Run

When: Saturday, Sept. 21

Where: Ephrata Middle School

5K color run/walk for all ages. Benefits Ephrata Area Education Foundation.


Pretzel Twist Race and Kids Mile Marathon

When: Saturday, Sept. 21

Where: Lititz

This Lititz RecCenter race ends a three-week program to help you run a 5K. In the kids mile marathon, children can complete 25 miles at their own pace and run the final 1.2 miles at this race.


Hands-On House Half Marathon, 10K and 5K

When: Saturday, Sept. 28

Where: Hands-on House Children's Museum

Half-marathon, 10K and 5K races go through farmland, neighborhoods and a covered bridge. Benefits Hands-on House children’s museum.
