saffron harvest

Fall-blooming crocus sativus is a plant with purple flowers, yellow stamens and the main attraction: a red stigma that is saffron.

In November, gardeners can learn how to make a Thanksgiving centerpiece or succulent-topped pine cones.

Here’s a roundup of gardening events throughout Lancaster County and beyond. There are several workshops where you can dig in and make things like botanical pumpkins. There are talks about shade gardens and saffron and a session on foraging for roots, too.

Space is limited at some of these classes and a few ask for advance registration, so don't wait if one sounds promising.
