Four Lancaster County dairies are among the 13 creameries in eight counties in southcentral Pennsylvania that are part of the state Department of Agriculture's Pursue Your Scoops Southcentral Pennsylvania Ice Cream Trail.
The trail, now in its second year, is a way to encourage customers to visit independent dairy farms and the creameries that sell milk and ice cream products.
The four Lancaster County creameries on the trail are Pine View Dairy, 2225 New Danville Pike; Fox Meadows Creamery, 2475 W. Main St., Ephrata; Lapp Valley Farm, 244 Mentzer Road, New Holland; and The Milkhouse at Oregon Dairy, 2900 Oregon Pike, between Neffsville and Brownstown.
Those who want to sample their way through these creameries can download a Pursue Your Scoops ice cream passport online. Those who get their passport stamped at five of the creameries can get a Pursue Your Scoops T-shirt. Those who visit all 13 can get a shirt and an ice cream bowl.
The other creameries on the southcentral trail are Patches Family Creamery, Lebanon; Perrydell Farm and Dairy, York; Urban Churn, Harrisburg; Way-Har Farms, Bernville; Hall's Ice Cream, Millerstown; Sweet Treats & More, Elizabethville; The Sugar Shack of Boiling Springs, Boiling Springs; Windy Knoll Farm Market & Creamery, Chambersburg; and The Nesting Box Farm Market & Creamery, Kempton.
To claim prizes, those traveling the trail should complete their passports by Sept. 2 of this year and send them, postmarked by Sept. 30, to the Center for Dairy Excellence, 2301 N. Cameron St., Harrisburg, PA 17110.
Visit the ice cream trail's website for more information. The state also has two other Pursue Your Scoops ice cream trails with similar passports: one in Western Pennsylvania and one in the eastern part of the state.
The trail is sponsored by the agriculture department, the Center for Dairy Excellence and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's tourism website, VisitPA.com. The three organizations are encouraging those visiting the creameries on the trail to share their photos and experiences on social media, using the hashtag #PursueYourScoops, for more chances at prizes.
