The Bulls Head Public House in Lititz has been named the top beer bar in the country by the readers of 10Best.com, a travel website of USA Today. The results of the readers'-choice poll were announced Friday.
The British-style pub at 14 E. Main St. won the honor after a couple of weeks of voting among 20 nominees across the country.
The Bulls Head had jockeyed for the number one spot throughout the final week of voting with The Avenue Pub, New Orleans, which finished number 2 in the poll.
The Bulls Head, which is attached to the General Sutter Inn, was also recently named best beer bar in Pennsylvania for the third year in a row, based on readers' votes on CraftBeer.com. The pub recently celebrated its eighth anniversary.
The other eight bars in the top-10 winners list on 10Best.com, in order, are The Open Bottle, Tinley Park, Illinois; Brown Iron Brewhouse, Washington, Michigan; Salud Beer Shop, Charlotte, North Carolina; The Birch, Norfolk, Virginia; HopCat, Grand Rapids, Michigan; The Crafty Fox Ale House, San Francisco; Belmont Station, Portland, Oregan; and Gold Star Beer Counter, Brooklyn.
A panel of experts on the North American beer scene picked the initial 20 nominees.
"For us, even just to be mentioned among all these incredible bars is such an honor ...," Bulls Head general manager Brant Dunlap said earlier this week. "We’re happy just to be able to make such a prestigious list."
