Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home

After serving in the U.S. Navy, Charles F. Snyder found himself without a job at the end of World War II, but not without a dream.

Already a licensed funeral director, Snyder fulfilled that dream in November 1947, founding and opening the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home at 414 E. King St.

“My grandfather had a philosophy, which was ‘always take care of people, no matter what, during the most difficult time when a family loses a loved one,” says Snyder’s grandson, Charles F. “Chad” Snyder III.

Chad and his father, Charles F. “Chip” Snyder Jr., currently own and operate the funeral home started by their namesake.

Still at its original downtown location on East King Street, the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home also has locations at 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, and at 441 N. George St., Millersville. The fourth and newest location is Spacht-Snyder Funeral Home, 127 N. Broad St., Lititz.

In their seven decades of business, the family has not only expanded its locations, but also its services, always keeping in mind Charles F. Snyder’s core philosophy.

“The services and products we provide are expansive, virtually A-Z,” Chad says, “and we work hard at providing options in every category of funeral and cremation service.”

In fact, the funeral home has a dedicated team for every department, he says.

One such team focuses only on the needs of clients who want to preplan their funerals. Those specialists have experience offering a wide variety of plans and partial plans to suit every client’s needs, including lump sum and monthly payment plans.

As an additional service, they offer free educational Lunch & Learn events on preplanning each month at restaurants throughout the county.

“Having dedicated professionals to better focus on clients’ needs and demands means we can provide a better customer experience,” Chad says. “With a Snyder plan you have a guarantee from our family that the services you chose will be taken care of.”

The Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home also has an Hispanic funeral department, Bienvenidos, where they provide a bilingual experience for the Latino community they have served for over 50 years.

“Lancaster County has become a multicultural county, and we have become experts in serving the religious, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of all who live in the county,” Chad says.

The Snyders say they are proud of their funeral staff, which includes some just starting their career and others who have spent their entire career with the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home.

“They are very in tune and sensitive to the families that come to us in their time of need,” Chad says. “Our job as a funeral home is to walk with the family to help them honor their loved one.”

One unique way they are able to do that is through their on-site crematory. They are the only funeral home in Lancaster County to offer cremation services all under one roof. The dedicated cremation suite includes a comfort room in a bedroom setting, where families can say good-bye to their loved ones. There is also an optional witness room, where the family can observe the beginning of cremation, and a specially designed cremation room to provide an extra amount of comfort.

The funeral home also specializes in providing services to veterans, continuing the philosophy of founder and veteran Charles F. Snyder to serve those who gave us our freedom and fought for our country. They are the only county funeral provider in the Veterans & Family Memorial Care national provider network.

In addition to their services, Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home offers a large selection of caskets, burial vaults, urns, keepsake cremation jewelry, monuments, bronze markers, eco-friendly caskets and urns, and video tributes.

They are open 24/7, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
