Weis Markets intends to open a third Lancaster County beer cafe at its Red Rose Commons store.
Weis opened its first cafe here in its Lititz store in March. Its Ephrata store will add a beer cafe in the next few months.
A notice about the company’s application for an alcoholic-beverage license for the Red Rose Commons store is posted at the front of the store.
It’s not known when the beer cafe might open or how large it might be.
Weis spokesman Dennis Curtin said Friday the company has “interest” in opening a beer cafe at the store, along Fruitville Pike.
But he said it was too early “to share additional details on this project.”
If the Red Rose Commons beer cafe is like the others, it will seat about 30 or 35 patrons in about 2,500 square feet.
The cafe will stock more than 300 beers, sold for take-out or on-site consumption, supplemented by a menu of chicken, subs and other items.
Weis, based in Sunbury, has 163 stores in five states, including 12 in Lancaster County, making Weis the largest supermarket chain here.
It’s the only supermarket chain operating here to have a beer cafe at a local store. Weis has 24 beer cafes overall.
Weis opened its Red Rose Commons store in 1998. At 65,000 square feet, it replaced a Golden Triangle site of half the size.
The Golden Triangle store on Lititz Pike was the original Weis in Lancaster County, opening in 1960.
