Wegmans will open its Lancaster supermarket on Sunday, Sept. 23, at 7 a.m., the upscale chain announced Tuesday.
The 120,000-square-foot store will anchor The Crossings at Conestoga Creek, a mixed-use development on Harrisburg Pike opposite Long’s Park.
Previously, Wegmans had only said that its store will open in the month of September.
The new store, open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, will employ 475 people. Hiring of its 175 full-time workers is mostly complete but is ongoing for select positions. The store continues to hire its 300 part-time employees.
Wegmans, a family-owned business based in Rochester, New York, emphasizes service, a wide selection and restaurant-quality prepared foods.
The store will carry 60,000 items, including more than 4,000 organic items. It also will have a family friendly casual-dining restaurant, The Burger Bar.
Based on square footage, the store will be the second biggest supermarket in the county, trailing only Shady Maple in East Earl, which measures 150,000 square feet.
Wegmans announced in October 2015 that it was coming to The Crossings, ending months of speculation.
The Crossings will consist of up to 25 other stores and restaurants, plus 258 upscale apartments and a 127-suite hotel, a Residence Inn by Marriott.
High Real Estate Group, developer of the $120 million Crossings, has not disclosed the names of any of the other stores or restaurants.
Wegmans is a 97-store supermarket chain with stores in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland and Massachusetts. The company celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2016.
