A company that sells natural personal-care and household products will open an e-commerce fulfillment center outside Elizabethtown, creating 100 jobs.
Grove Collaborative will open the facility there, supported by $250,000 in incentives from the state Department of Community & Economic Development, the department said Thursday.
Grove will invest $645,000 in equipment and fixtures for the leased space of 150,000 square feet in the Conewago Industrial Park in West Donegal Township, the state said.
The company’s space will be part of a 320,000-square-foot building under construction at 35 Conewago Road. It will be next door to Nordstrom’s e-commerce fulfillment center.
Grove, a San Francisco-based firm, will consolidate three sites in the Harrisburg area into the new facility, expected to begin operating in the fourth quarter.
“We’re thrilled to be a major employer in Lancaster County very soon,” said John Krudy, Grove’s senior operations manager.
Krudy said Grove was attracted to the Conewago facility because of its proximity to major roads, including Route 283 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike, and the chance to be in a new structure.
Grove was founded in 2013 as ePantry. It opened in Harrisburg in 2015, changing its name to Grove in 2016.
With more than 250 employees, Grove operates strictly as an e-commerce firm. It does not disclose its annual revenues.
Besides creating the 100 new jobs over the next three years, the venture will retain the 135 jobs now at the Harrisburg locations.
“This major expansion will allow us to bring in the talent and resources to serve millions of families in the coming years,” said Stuart Landesberg, Grove co-founder and CEO, in a prepared statement.
Grove sells about 1,000 different items, said Krudy.
Its line includes soaps, bathroom cleaner, fabric softener, paper towels, moisturizers, razors, baby wipes and toothpaste.
To spark Grove’s decision to expand in Pennsylvania, DCED offered a $50,000 Pennsylvania First grant and $200,000 in job creation tax credits.
Grove is a Certified B Corp., meaning it prioritizes social, environmental and community wellbeing as well as profit.
