Lancaster Cheesesteak Co. is slated to open by early August in downtown Lancaster.

The 40-seat restaurant at 43 W. King St. will feature a variety of chicken and steak cheesesteaks as well as distinctively Lancaster County foods such as shoofly pie, whoopie pies and red beet eggs.

It will be owned and managed by Faith Smith, who is partnering with Bala Adhikari, an owner of Namaste Restaurant in East Hempfield Township.

The restaurant will open with about five varieties of cheesesteaks, which will be named for Lancaster city streets and landmarks. The sandwiches will be 16 or 18 inches long.

Smith has some experience working in restaurants but spent most of her career as a heavy equipment operator. She will have a handful of employees, including Eric Herr, who used to work at The Steak Out in Lancaster.

Lancaster Cheesesteak will take a space that recently had been a H&R Block location and was the longtime home of Jason’s clothing store. Jason’s closed in 2014 after more than 50 years in business.
