Black Olive Family Diner has opened along Route 462 on the eastern edge of Columbia.

The 24-hour diner at 1506 Lancaster Ave. has a lengthy menu that includes sandwiches, burgers, wraps and pitas as well as Italian dishes, steaks, roasts and salads. The crabcakes are also a specialty and there is an extensive breakfast menu, with some items available all day.

The restaurant has seating for around 135, mostly in booths. There are around 30 employees.

Black Olive Family Diner is owned by Fatih Sivri and his brothers, Yasar and Huseyin, and their nephew, Ugur.

The family has owned several diners in New Jersey, where the 33-year-old Fatih Sivri has worked for some 20 years. He said he is now moving to the area so he can focus on the new Columbia diner.

Before opening, the owners spent around three months doing renovations, spending more than $150,000 on upgrades that included new booths and tables as well as new tiles and paneling on some walls. The kitchen also was upgraded.

Black Olive Family Diner is in a 3,000-square-foot space that is the former home of Salsa’s Mexican Grille. The spot was also previously A1 Chinese Buffet & Grill, Emerson’s Pub and Maple Crest Inn.
