As the last week of the regular season unfolds, the L-L softball scene is deliciously muddled.

The identity of the section champions? That is relatively clear.

Warwick (12-2) wrapped up the Section One title before April turned to May.

Manheim Central (14-0) followed suit with a key victory over Donegal in Section Three last week.

Solanco (13-2) eliminated Elizabethtown to nail down the title in Two.

Which leaves Section Four.

Pequea Valley (11-3) has a one-game lead over Annville-Cleona (10-4) with two games to go. They meet head-to-head Tuesday afternoon in Kinzers in a makeup of Friday's rainout.

Before then the Braves host Columbia Monday while A-C hosts Lancaster Catholic.

Whoever wins the title, the other will get the section's second invitation to the league playoffs which begin this Saturday.

If only the second selections from the other sections were that readily apparent.

With a late-season victory over Solanco - and Solanco's subsequent conquest of E-town - Conestoga Valley (12-3) has secured the second spot out of Section Two.

CV coach Larry Minney believes it is the Bucks' first-ever league playoff berth.

The race for the second spot from Section Three comes down to Donegal (13-2) and Lampeter-Strasburg (11-3), and what do you know, they meet Monday afternoon in Mount Joy.

A Donegal victory ties a bow around a Saturday appearance for the Indians. Should L-S win, the Pioneers still have to defeat Manheim Central on Tuesday in a makeup game.

That was easy enough. Now it gets sticky.

Three teams have a legitimate shot at Section One's No. 2 seed: Penn Manor (9-6), Hempfield (8-6) and Cedar Crest (8-7).

The Comets host McCaskey (3-11) today. Cedar Crest hosts Manheim Township (4-10) and Hempfield travels to Warwick this evening.

Hempfield also has a makeup game with Township.

Hempfield needs to defeat Warwick to remain in the hunt. A loss gives Penn Manor the inside track.

Cedar Crest's hopes are hanging by a thread.

Tiebreakers? Head-to-head Penn Manor split with Crest and with Hempfield. Hempfield swept the Falcons.

Record against the section champion, Warwick? The Warriors swept Crest, split with the Comets and, going into tonight, have the first victory over the Knights.

If the standings hold, the first-round pairings for the league playoffs will be:

Donegal (Section Three runnerup) vs. Warwick (Section One champion)

Conestoga Valley (2-2) vs. Pequea Valley (4-1)

Annville-Cleona (4-2) vs. Solanco (2-1)

Manheim Central (3-1) vs. Penn Manor-Hempfield-Cedar Crest (1-2)

The entire tournament will once again take place at Garrett Park in Willow Street.

The time schedule Saturday has games set for 10 a.m., noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Which pairings play when remains undecided for now, given that all contenders will be holding proms Friday or Saturday nights.

The semifinals will be May 14 at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. with the championship game set for May 16 at 7 p.m.
