Snow geese lovers caught a glimpse of the birds at Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area on Sunday afternoon as snow geese by the thousands flocked to the area.

Both geese and bird fans flocked to the Willow Point Trail overlook for the annual spectacle. An estimate from the middle of last week, provided by the Middle Creek manager, put the number of snow geese at Middle Creek at 55,000, up from 40,000 just days before.

According to the Middle Creek website, the period of year that annually attracts the most birds remains late winter. During this timeframe, large numbers of migrating waterfowl normally appear.

In recent years, more than 100,000 snow geese, 10,00 tundra swans, 10,000 Canada geese and a variety of ducks have stopped at Middle Creek while pushing north to their breeding grounds.
