Poet to appear at DogStar
DogStar Poetry Review will be presenting Michael O'Hara as featured poet from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at DogStar Books, 401 W. Lemon St. An open mic follows the reading.
A writer-performer from the Philadelphia area, O'Hara has two chapbooks: the in-print "The Year With No Holidays" and the out-of-print "The Fine Art of Selling Out."
He has recently been published in Apiary Literary Magazine and won the Philadelphia "Literary Death Match."
O'Hara's also been published by the United Nations in their anthology "Dialogue Among Civilizations Through Poetry."
His working class upbringing and lifetime of daydreaming during factory jobs informs his poetry, and he boasts a set of experiences ranging from the mundane to the surreal. O'Hara currently coaches Spoken Word artists and gives performance and writing workshops in the Philadelphia area while maintaining a full-time career as an engineer.
After receiving library detention in fourth grade for engaging in fisticuffs, O'Hara began an interest in literature in general, and the Arthurian legends in particular.
In his spare time, he hikes, designs and play-tests strategy games, and builds robots, among other eccentric endeavors.n
