RESTAURANT INSPECTIONS
The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, 866-366-3723, uses a "risk-based" inspection reporting process for restaurants and other food handlers.
The following inspection reports were completed Jan. 18-25.
Active Social, 764 Crystal St., Jan. 25. No violations.
Amelia's Grocery Outlet, 685 W. Main St., New Holland, Jan. 24. Follow-up inspection. Water temperature at hand sink in bulk ingredient room still needs to be repaired. Manager assures compliance by specified correction date.
Amelia's Grocery Outlet, 703 Lancaster Road, Jan. 23. The front dairy counter had a temperature of 47-54 F. All products were removed. All cold foods must be kept at 41 F or colder. Service call placed for the dairy counter.
Amishview Inn & Suites, 3125 Old Philadelphia Pike, Bird-in-Hand, Jan. 18. In-use knives and/or cleavers stored between table edges or between tables, areas not easily cleaned and sanitized.
Arianna's Bakery, 158 E. Jackson St., New Holland, Jan. 24. Internal temperature of cream cheese filled bakery items in display case for more than four hours measured 45 F. Voluntarily discarded. Can opener blade is worn and needs to be replaced.
Bartville Fabrics, 1287 Noble Road, Christiana, Jan. 18. No violations.
Bird's Nest, 10 S. Prince St., Jan. 25. No violations.
Blue Ball Elementary School, 126 Ewell Road, East Earl, Jan. 22. Automatic sanitizer dispenser at the three-bay sink is not working. Sinks need to be filled manually until repair is made.
Blue Ball Fire Company, 4305 Division Highway, Blue Ball, Jan. 24. Facility is cooling potentially hazardous foods in deep, plastic containers. Reviewed proper cooling methods.
Bright's Drive-In, 1025 S. State St., Ephrata, Jan. 25. A food employee was touching cabbage with bare hands. Plastic single-use cups used instead of scoops in bulk food items. Ice scoop stored on top of ice maker. Food stored on the floor in the walk-in freezer. Black slime on the drop plate of the ice maker. Old food residue on the can opener in the back food prep area. Clean dish racks stored on the floor in dishwashing area. Lights are not shielded or shatterproof over the back food prep area and over the cook line.
Cafe East, 594 Centerville Road, Jan. 24. Follow-up inspection; no violations.
Cameron Estates, 1855 Mansion Lane, Mount Joy, Jan. 23. Pest control devices above prep areas and utensils. Several items thawing in standing water in the three-bay sink. Ceiling tile is missing or damaged over dishwasher in the Carriage House. Flooring tiles are missing or damaged in the main kitchen area.
Candyland (Barbies), 2710 Old Philadelphia Pike, Bird-in-Hand, Jan. 18. No violations.
Dutch Country Poultry, 705 Graystone Road, Manheim, Jan. 22. Food facility does not have a three-compartment sink for manual warewashing. The facility must use a third bin for sanitizing all food equipment prior to and after use. No sanitizing buckets set up in the facility for wiping food contact surfaces. Old food residue inside the ham slicer on the back counter. No chemical sanitizer used on equipment and utensils after washing and rinsing. Person in charge instructed employee to quickly add bleach to soapy water when the inspection started. The facility is washing food contact surfaces and then rinsing them off, which is an unapproved method. All utensils and food equipment must be washed, rinsed and then sanitized and allowed to air dry. A jug of liquidstored in the designated hand sink. This is a designated hand sink and nothing else should be placed into it. The hand sink in the food prep area was blocked by a large meat grinder and was not accessible at all times for employee use. Employees must be able to wash hands frequently throughout the day. Repeat violation.
M&J La Cucina, 336 Main St., Denver, Jan. 23. The person in charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of the Pa. Food Code as evidenced by this noncompliant inspection. Employee's coat was stored on the bottom of the kitchen prep table and not in dressing rooms or identified storage area. Food employee changing tasks that may have contaminated hands without a proper handwash in between. Food handler wiped hands on apron. Food handler with long, polished nails not wearing gloves. Food handler eating bread in the food prep area. In-use tongs kept on oven handle in kitchen and inside can opener holder. Old food residue on can opener blade. An accumulation of food residue noted in pizza bain marie gaskets. Bottom of upright refrigerator in kitchen needs to be cleaned. Food handler states that she uses a towel to dry dishes. Hand sink at pizza area in front of establishment can't be used due to leak on soda machine motor. The hand sink in the kitchen does not have water measuring at least 100 F due to frozen pipes. Temporary handwashing setups will be used until corrected. No soap and paper towels at hand sinks. Old, unused oven and upright refrigerator in kitchen should be removed. Drop ceiling tile in kitchen near bain marie is loose. Some grease accumulation on hood baffles. There is no person on the premises who possesses a Certified Food Manager certificate. At least one person needs to successfully complete an approved food safety course within 90 days of this report date.
Marion Court Room, 7 Marion Court, Jan. 24. Clean grills in walk-in cooler to prevent dust debris from blowing onto food products. Clean dish racks on a more regular basis. Clean dust buildup on wires under the pass-through window from cooking area to bar area.
Yofro Sweets, 1246 Millersville Pike, Jan. 24. Working containers of cleaner and sanitizer were stored above clean food equipment in the equipment cleaning area. Working containers of glass cleaner were stored on the same shelf with food and single-use napkins in the back storage area. Working containers of dish detergent were stored on the same shelf with food in the back storage area. Wet wiping cloths on and around the designated hand sink, not stored in sanitizer solution. Food items stored in the cabinet below the designated hand sink. The knobs on the dispensers for the yogurt additives have an accumulation of a sticky substance and hard residue on each of them. No poster at the hand sink in the back food prep area to remind food employees to wash their hands. Soap was not available at the hand sink in the back food prep area.
