A fire that started near a chimney caused $80,000 damage Saturday afternoon to the side of a three-story home in Bart Township.

Firefighters from six fire companies responded to the older home at 141 Lamparter Road at 1:44 p.m. The home is near the intersection with Gibbles Hill Road.

Lt. Larry Lucarino of the Bart Township Fire Company said it took firefighters about 30 minutes to get the fire under control.

Fire crews from Bart Township, Quarryville, Gap, Christiana, Strasburg and Cochranville spent more than two hours fighting the fire and cleaning up in cold and wind.

A state police fire marshal was called to the scene to determine the cause of the fire. The fire was reported near the chimney.

The family who lived in the home were staying with friends Saturday night.n
